Through our Native American Homeownership Initiative (NAHI), member financial institutions have access to grant funding to provide eligible households down payment and closing cost assistance.

  • NAHI grant amounts are $25,000 per household.
  • Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of $150,000 per member, per Down Payment program.

Since the inception of our Down Payment programs NAHI and Home$tart, FHLB Des Moines has awarded a combined $161.7 million in down payment and closing cost assistance to help more than 33,500 families with the purchase of a home.

Additional NAHI funds available!

On April 1, 2025, FHLB Des Moines added an additional $350,000 in NAHI funds. This funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, subject to availability.
