Duane Creel

Duane Creel was named chief risk and compliance officer at Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines in November 2021. He previously served as the interim executive vice president and chief risk and compliance officer beginning in June 2021. Creel has 20 years of regulatory experience in the financial services industry performing risk-focused safety and soundness examinations and developing a risk-based capital model.

He began his career at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) where he performed safety and soundness examinations of commercial banks and thrifts as the as examiner-in-charge. After resigning from the FDIC to attend graduate school, he accepted a financial analyst position at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. Duane continued his career in various senior-level roles at the Federal Housing Finance Board and its successor agency, the Federal Housing Finance Agency.  At the beginning of his tenure, he focused on Federal Home Loan Bank supervision, where he served as examiner-in-charge, supervisory bank examiner, portfolio manager, and associate director. Duane then transitioned to examiner-in-charge roles overseeing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, a Master of Science degree in Finance from The George Washington University, and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He also completed the Federal Executive Institute’s Leadership for a Democratic Society program.
