Young Professionals

The Bank’s Young Professionals Business Resource Group (BRG) was created to assist our young employees during the beginning stages—and perhaps the toughest part—of their careers. Members of this BRG focus on helping others, serving the community and developing their skills and abilities while facilitating the establishment of diverse social and professional networks.

Sam Sincox, Senior Analyst, Credit Risk, enjoys being a part of the Young Professionals BRG because he gets to connect with people outside of his department and implement change.

“During one of the first meetings of the Young Professionals BRG we were asked to think about any policy updates we thought may be important,” said Sam. “I brought up the idea of offering a student loan reimbursement program. Multiple chairs of the Young Professionals BRG reached out shortly after the meeting and a working group was quickly developed to bring a formal request to the executive team.”

Much more than social networking groups, BRGs provide employees with opportunities to engage in open, honest dialogue around social or cultural topics that are important to their BRG demographic. Additional BRGs at the Bank include our Multicultural and Women’s BRGs, and an LGBTQ BRG is being developed currently. The conversations and activities that emerge help equip our entire workforce to think and behave inclusively and harness the strength of diversity.

“Being a part of the Young Professionals BRG widens my perspective and empowers me to collaboratively shape the culture of the Bank now and in the future.”

Anthony Disparte, Senior Analyst, Credit, Western Office BRG Chair

Kate Slusark, Young Professionals BRG Chair in our Headquarters, agreed with Anthony on the emphasis on culture at the Bank.

“I've never worked for a place that I feel as welcome as I do here. The Bank demonstrates its commitment to diversity and inclusion by consciously seeking out practices which include people of different backgrounds.”

Members enjoy a unique space in which their voices are always heard while growing through learning, networking, professional development and leadership exposure. The Bank benefits from deeper engagement, greater insight, talent attraction and retention and leadership development.

“FHLB Des Moines is a very encouraging environment for young professionals. The Bank does a great job recruiting, developing and motivating young professionals on a day to day basis.”
