Meet Justin Greenwood

Empowerment through diversity and inclusion.

At Federal Home Loan Bank Des Moines, one of the company’s top priorities is to help team members understand one another on a deeper level. That’s part of what Justin Greenwood loves most about working here.

In 2019, FHLB Des Moines hosted a Day of Understanding, a time when discussion sessions that include everyone from President and CEO Mike Wilson to first-week employees talk about diversity and inclusion issues pulled straight from the headlines.

“It was really eye-opening to sit down and talk with people that all have different diverse aspects of their lives,” Greenwood said. “You get to know those people better by understanding their stories and where they come from.”

FHLB Des Moines believes that’s a good start, but knows in order to understand others it can’t be accomplished on a single day. Empowered to speak their minds and take diversity and inclusion into their own hands, Greenwood and his colleagues founded the Young Professionals Business Resource Group (BRG), just one of many team member-created groups aimed at facilitating discussion, as well as personal and professional growth. From the Women’s BRG to the Multicultural BRG, opportunities to hear and learn more about different perspectives abound.

“This is an environment where people are really eager to know more, whether it’s a job-related issue or just opening up to other viewpoints,” Greenwood says. “And the culture is really flourishing.”
