Employee Feature: Don Willits
This quarter, FHLB Des Moines (the Bank) wanted to say thank you to one of our senior analysts, Don Willits, who has been a valued member of the Collateral Field Staff for more than 19 years. Don is officially retiring on November 15, but we wanted to reflect on the great work he has accomplished and the many connections he has made with members across our district.
“It has been enjoyable traveling our region - from Spokane, WA, to Fargo, ND, through Iowa and all the way to the Missouri Bootheel,” said Don. “It has been a pleasure to work with members to provide them the tools to pledge more eligible collateral and help them increase their advance capacity with FHLB Des Moines.”
What Don will miss the most about working at FHLB Des Moines - in addition to his wonderful team - are the many fantastic Barbeque restaurants he’s explored across the district, as well as helping members fulfill their borrowers' dreams.
“I will miss getting to play a part in our members helping thousands of individual borrowers buy their first home, support business owners, help rural farmers and real estate investors expand and grow their businesses,” said Don. “FHLB Des Moines helps provide the funding and liquidity for our member institutions to help fulfill the dreams of their customers.”
Don will be missed by the entire Collateral team. They appreciate the years of knowledge and expertise that he brought to the department.
“One afternoon, I got a call from Don, welcoming me to FHLB Des Moines and asking if I had time to discuss potential risks and merits of a certain type of loan structure,” said VP/ Director, Member Collateral Verification, Doug Hollmann. “We ended up talking for an hour. From that conversation, it was clear to me that Don not only had a broad-based knowledge of loan structures, but had the best interests of FHLB Des Moines at heart. We thank Don for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Don's retirement plans include traveling with his wife and spending quality time with his family in Central Iowa.
Thank you, Don, for your 19 years of dedication. The Bank wishes you all the best. If you would like to wish Don a “happy retirement,” you may email at email@example.com.
