Employee Feature: Barbara Loper

Barbara Loper and her dog BellaBarbara Loper, manager, Collateral Review Depositories, is coming up on her 10-year anniversary with the Federal Home Loan Bank System. She started at FHLB Seattle in 2011 and was part of the merger with FHLB Des Moines in 2015.

Since then, Barbara has been leading a portion of the Collateral Field Staff, the team responsible for completing Member Collateral Verifications (MCVs), by example.

“I give my team the ability to build their skills and give them the motivation to do well,” Barbara said. “I engage in honest and open dialogue. People always know where they stand, even if it’s a hard conversation.”

She is proud of how her team has pivoted during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue providing excellent service to our members through remote MCVs.

“My team works tirelessly; they really care about what they’re doing and their roles with the members,” Barbara said. “The MCV group likes to think of ourselves as partners with the members. Being a cooperative means that we are protecting all of the members, not just the member we are performing an MCV on. If we sustain a loss due to lack of collateral, it affects all of the members.”

Outside of work Barbara loves traveling, golfing, reading and spending time with her dog, Bella. If you’d like to connect with Barbara, you can send her a note at bloper@fhlbdm.com.
