Community Investment: Affordable Housing Advisory Council

2011 Affordable Housing Advisory Council Nominations

FHLB Des Moines is now accepting nominations for its Affordable Housing Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is a 15-member group made up of a diverse range of community and nonprofit organizations actively involved in providing or promoting low and moderate-income housing and community lending in the Bank’s district.

To encourage diversified representation, FHLB Des Moines solicits nominations annually. By law, nominees must be a resident of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota or South Dakota. Employees and directors of FHLB Des Moines member financial institutions are not eligible for appointment to the Advisory Council.

Responsibilities
The Advisory Council meets quarterly with FHLB Des Moines staff and board of directors to provide advice on ways the Bank can better carry out its housing finance and community investment mission. This includes:

  • low and moderate-income housing and community investment program needs in the Bank's district

  • the use of Affordable Housing Program subsidies

  • FHLB Des Moines advances and other Bank credit products for these purposes

Overview
This year, FHLB Des Moines will appoint five members to serve three-year terms beginning January 2011 and ending December 2013. One current Advisory Council member with a term expiring at the end of 2010 is eligible to be considered for reappointment and has expressed an interest in reappointment.

There are four Advisory Council positions open and FHLB Des Moines is seeking nominees
